Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best way to brew your coffee?

LUNA and Moon Ghost (light roasts): these will work best with a pour over or drip coffee maker. We recommend 1 tablespoon of coffee to 3oz of water, or if you are into ratios, 1:16 (1g of coffee to 16mL water).

CIELO (medium roast) and NOCHE (dark roast): these work well with drip methods or espresso!

Why the focus on light roasts?

We lean towards light roast for two reasons, the first being that they retain more of the fruit flavor and sweetness from the coffee plant! The second being that they make excellent coffee at home with minimal equipment. If you are used to commercial roasts, you will find that ours require much less milk, cream, and/or sweetener.

Why do you only offer a handful of coffees?

We always want our coffee to be about quality over quantity. When we find a green coffee we like, it is roasted over and over in small batches until we LOVE it. But rest assured, we are always testing and always trying to improve.

Can I use LUNA or CIELO roast for espresso?

Yes. Cielo is magical as espresso but Luna may take a bit more finesse. If you have temperature control on your machine, aim higher (around 95C).

Why is Moon Crater Coffee only available for local pickup?

As part of our start-up business model, we want our coffee to reach you as fresh as possible, so everything is roasted to order. At some point, we would like to have whole bean coffee on store shelves, but either way, you never get old beans!

Does Honey Process coffee use or contain honey?

Honey Process doesn’t actually involve honey, but rather the fruit mucilage stays in contact with the seed during processing, giving a honey-like appearance on the raw bean.
